Anxiety
"You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you." — Dan Millman
Is it hard to relax or just enjoy everyday events without a sense of dread? Anxiety is an umbrella term to describe the experience of feeling nervous, worried, fearful or panicked. Anxiety usually starts as a protective reaction to a difficult environment or a traumatic event. At low or moderate levels, it helps us with motivation and performance, but for many people who struggle with anxiety, the experience goes beyond what was protective, happening more frequently or everyday. This can have a domino effect on our sense of physical wellness, our emotions and whether we feel we are in control of our lives.

"This feeling will pass. The fear is real, the danger is not." -Cammie McGovern
My approach to treating anxiety combines methods including EMDR therapy to recover from traumatic or difficult events that may be an underlying cause of the anxiety. Client can develop new tools they can use to relieve symptoms immediately, while working to address the underlying causes - ultimately eliminating symptoms entirely.
Clients learn skills to cope with excessive anxiety and overcome the fear that now seems so invasive in life. With support, the anxiety reaction can be overcome altogether so clients feel comfortable in their world in general, and equipped to take on situations that seemed overwhelming before.
